Viet Grill in the Press

Viet Grill has been part of London’s Vietnamese food scene for more than two decades. Located on Kingsland Road in Shoreditch, the restaurant sits at the heart of London’s famous ‘Phở Mile’ and serves Vietnamese dishes inspired by the food and culture of Saigon.

Over the years, Viet Grill has been featured by some of London’s leading food and lifestyle publications, from Time Out and The Infatuation to Foodism and SquareMeal.

In its 2025 guide to London’s best Vietnamese restaurants, Time Out included Viet Grill at number 10, highlighting the restaurant’s stylish, modern setting and its Vietnamese dishes.

Time Out particularly praised Viet Grill’s Hanoi-style bánh cuốn, describing the steamed rice rolls as a favourite with Vietnamese regulars, alongside its phở and mì vằn thắn.

More recently, Foodism featured Vietnamese Kitchen in its September 2025 feature ‘A taste of home with Vietnamese Kitchen’, exploring founder Hieu Bui’s journey from Hanoi to London and the inspiration behind Cây Tre, Viet Grill and Kêu.

The feature looks at Viet Grill’s connection to Saigon and describes how the restaurant was created to capture the energy of Vietnamese dining – from steaming bowls of phở and shared dishes to the lively atmosphere of a Saigon restaurant.

Foodism has also featured Viet Grill in its guide to the best phở in London, highlighting the restaurant's ten different types of phở, including its 24-hour beef bone marrow stock, as well as its wider menu of Vietnamese classics.

The Infatuation describes Viet Grill as being 'all about great Vietnamese food and fun cocktails in stylish surroundings', highlighting the restaurant as a lively option for groups and casual dinners.

Its review singles out the phở and chả lá lốt, while noting that the daily specials are particularly worth looking out for.

SquareMeal awarded Viet Grill a Bronze Award, describing it as a contemporary introduction to Kingsland Road’s Phở Mile.

The review highlights the restaurant’s summer rolls, roasted ‘piggy’ aubergine, fragrant curries and dishes finished at the table, alongside its cocktail bars and distinctive interiors.

Viet Grill has evolved since opening, but its foundations remain the same: Vietnamese cooking, traditional dishes, generous sharing plates and the social spirit of eating together.

From its place on Kingsland Road’s original Phở Mile to its continued inclusion in London’s Vietnamese restaurant guides, Viet Grill remains part of the city’s Vietnamese dining story.
